Identifying Lyme disease - the 'New Great Imitator'

10 Oct 2024
GP Clinical Theatre 2

Lyme disease is transmitted by the bite of an infected tick. Early diagnosis and treatment provides the best chance of recovery, but symptoms can be non-specific and easily missed at all stages, with potential long term debilitating consequences.
This session will highlight the key advice within the NICE Lyme disease Guideline (NG95), provide insight into the array of presenting symptoms at all stages, and present some results from a recent UK national survey of patient experiences.

  • - More confidently advise on tick bite prevention & correct use of tick removers
  • - Recognise the signs and symptoms of early and disseminated Lyme disease
  • -Recognise how to differentiate EM rashes from other insect bites/ rashes
  • - Understand the importance of early and adequate treatment in preventing persistent symptoms
  • -Access and use up to date guidelines on the treatment of Lyme disease
  • - Have an awareness of the recognised scientific uncertainties and the need for further research
Speakers
Anne Cruikshank, GP Advisor - Lyme Resource Centre
